L-carnitine serves a vital role in transporting fatty acids across the mitochondria for energy production. This occurs in liver, heart and muscle tissues which are reliant on fat for energy metabolism. Propionyl-L-carnitine (PLC) is a form of L-camitine that is more readily absorbed into the myocardial cells of the heart where it may help to support energy metabolism. Carnitine helps to transport fatty acids to the mitochondria where they are used in the production of adenosme ttiphosphate (ATP), the energy molecule. ATP levels in the heart need to be replenished on a regular basis since cells cannot store much of this important compound. gPLC plays a key role in this ptocess. Research suggests that gPLC has positive effects on energy and cardiovascular health.
